Needed Kitchenware: Mixing bowl, whisk
  • 3 tbsp vegan mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp dill weed
  • 1 tbsp onion powder or granules
  • 1 tbsp water
Recipe Directions


  • Add all the ingredients into a small bowl and whisk to blend. Serve immediately and enjoy!

You can make this in bulk and store in refridgerator for up to 3 weeks. The dip might get thicker when it is stored, add water if you wish it to be thinner.

What is American Ranch?

I am not sure I can answer what ranch is supposed to be. I've lived in the Southeast USA for over 2 decades, traveled all over, and I tried ranch everywhere. After it grew on me, I ate it on everything for a long period of time, especially with raw veggies, sandwiches, and cooked potatoes.

It's hard to pinpoint what exactly ranch dressing is SUPPOSED to be, but for many, it's creamy, fatty, and features onions, dill weed, and sometimes a sour taste. This sour taste comes from buttermilk, mayonnaise, relish, or even vinegar. It's different at every household and every restaurant. There is no singular classic ranch recipe.

What makes this recipe different?

I'm a fan of simplicity in the kitchen. I like making things in with the least amount of dishes and focusing on core ingredients.

This recipe focuses on a few ingredients, the core of what ranch dressing is to me - mayonnaise, onion, and dill weed. That's it. It's the perfect ranch dressing that just so happens to be simple!

I never liked the types of ranch that had a relish taste, it seemed to be too soury and fatty with not enough flavor. To me, what makes my recipe my favorite ranch, is that it is ALL flavor with the sour or fattiness being a backdrop.

What do I eat ranch dip with?

I love it as a side to a potato hash with breakfast, eaten with raw vegetables like carrots, celery, or broccoli, and it is amazing to dip a sandwich or french fries into.
